Man City Tie Down Gvardiol With New Long-Term Deal

The Croatia international’s previous deal still had two years remaining, but Manchester City moved quickly to reward his impressive performances and ensure his long-term commitment to the club.

Gvardiol joined City from RB Leipzig in 2023 in a deal worth £77 million and has since made 122 appearances across competitions. His performances have reportedly attracted interest from top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

However, the 24-year-old defender said he had no doubts about extending his stay at Manchester City after learning of the club’s plans to renew his contract.

Gvardiol praised the support from City fans and the club’s world-class facilities, describing Manchester City as the ideal environment for his continued development.

Since arriving in England, the Croatian has impressed with his versatility, featuring both as a central defender and as a left-back. Although he missed several months of action due to a leg injury, he returned strongly and represented Croatia during their World Cup campaign.

The defender is now expected to play a key role in Manchester City’s plans as he continues his development under manager Enzo Maresca.

City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, expressed confidence in Gvardiol’s ability, describing him as a highly talented defender with the potential to become one of the best in the world.

The contract extension is part of Manchester City’s wider strategy of securing the futures of their young stars, following recent renewals for players such as Phil Foden and Abdukodir Khusanov.

Gvardiol, who helped Manchester City win the Premier League title in 2024, will now remain tied to the club until at least 2031 as he aims to continue making his mark at the Etihad Stadium.
