EFCC Interrogates Former Minister Uju Kennedy Over Alleged N138m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently questioning former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over allegations of misappropriation, procurement violations, and the diversion of public funds amounting to N138.4 million.

The funds, allocated in the ministry’s 2023 budget, were reportedly misused for personal purposes, including those designated for the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative.

A reliable source informed Vanguard that Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja at around 11:00 AM on Thursday and has been under interrogation since then.

“Investigators are probing Ohanenye’s involvement in the alleged diversion of N138 million from the Women Affairs Ministry’s 2023 budget,” the source stated.

Findings suggest that money intended for women-focused programs was instead redirected for personal gain, with evidence of procedural breaches in the ministry’s financial transactions.

Additionally, the former minister is being investigated for other fraudulent activities, including violations of procurement regulations and unauthorized expenditure of public funds.

As of the time of reporting, Ohanenye remains in EFCC custody, with the investigation still ongoing.
