The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has spoken about the painful experiences of attacks on members of the church in Northern Nigeria, urging Christians to refrain from seeking revenge despite the losses they have endured.

According to Ireporter Online, Adeboye made the remarks while speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, where he addressed criticism suggesting he had remained silent over recurring attacks on Christians in parts of Northern Nigeria.

Responding to the claims, the respected cleric said such criticisms failed to acknowledge the suffering and sacrifices made by churches under his leadership over the years. He recounted the tragic death of a female RCCG pastor who was attacked and killed while carrying out early morning evangelism in Northern Nigeria.

Adeboye explained that the pastor was preaching the message of Christ’s love near a mosque when she was assaulted and killed. He lamented that those responsible for the attack were never brought to justice, alleging that law enforcement authorities failed to carry out a thorough investigation or ensure accountability.

The RCCG leader further disclosed that following the incident, some young Christians urged the church to retaliate, believing the authorities had failed to protect innocent lives. However, he said he firmly rejected the calls for revenge, stressing that he would not allow such actions to trigger a religious crisis in the country.

Reflecting on the incident, Adeboye said the church deliberately chose the path of restraint despite the pain, maintaining that responding with violence would only deepen divisions and fuel further conflict.
