DONE DEAL! Chelsea Complete £47m Signing Of Marco Palestra From Atalanta
Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Italian right-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta in a deal valued at approximately £47 million, including performance-related add-ons.
The 21-year-old defender has signed a six-year contract with the Blues, with the club holding the option to extend his stay by an additional year. Palestra becomes Chelsea’s first signing since Xabi Alonso took charge as the club’s new manager.
Reports indicate that Palestra had been widely expected to rejoin his boyhood club, Inter Milan. However, Chelsea moved decisively to secure his signature after surpassing Inter’s reported £43 million bid and offering the player an improved financial package.
Speaking after completing the move, Palestra described Chelsea as one of the biggest clubs in world football and said the opportunity to work under Alonso played a major role in his decision. He added that the manager had shared his vision for the team, expressing excitement about competing in the Premier League alongside Chelsea’s talented squad.
The Italian defender joins Stamford Bridge following an impressive loan spell at Cagliari, where he was named Serie A Defender of the Year. His outstanding performances also earned him his senior debut for the Italian national team during the FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs.
With Palestra’s arrival confirmed, Chelsea are expected to continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new season. Reports suggest Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix has emerged as the club’s primary centre-back target, while discussions over a potential move for Rayo Vallecano full-back Pep Chavarria are ongoing.
Chelsea are also making progress in other areas of the transfer market, having reportedly agreed deals for Strasbourg striker Emmanuel Emegha and Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda. Midfielder Valentin Barco is also expected to complete a move to Stamford Bridge.
Despite the incoming arrivals, Chelsea could still witness several departures this summer. Midfielder Enzo Fernandez is reportedly attracting strong interest from Real Madrid, while Como are said to be in discussions over a move for Trevoh Chalobah. The futures of Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap, Wesley Fofana, Malo Gusto and Tosin Adarabioyo also remain uncertain as the club continues its squad rebuild ahead of the new campaign.
