Super Falcons Hit By Hotel Scandal As Okoronkwo Alleges Theft Before WAFCON

According to Ireporter Online, Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has alleged that some staff members of the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca stole money belonging to members of Nigeria’s women’s national team during their training camp ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Okoronkwo made the allegation through a series of posts on her Snapchat account, claiming that cash was taken from her wallet while the team was staying at the hotel.

The 29-year-old initially reported that $500 was missing from her belongings before later revising the figure after recounting her money, stating that the amount stolen was actually $700.

The forward also claimed that other members of the Super Falcons squad were affected by the alleged incident.

“This Marriott hotel in Casablanca just stole a lot of people’s money from their wallets,” Okoronkwo reportedly wrote.

“They just stole 500 USD from me. They stole a couple of dollars from my teammate.”

In a later update, she said, “Guys, I did my calculations wrong. They actually stole $700, not $500 USD.”

The player alleged that the money was taken by cleaning staff who reportedly waited until team members had left their rooms before carrying out their duties and allegedly removing the cash.

She further claimed that discussions with the hotel staff over the matter did not produce satisfactory answers and accused some employees of being disrespectful during the exchange.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the hotel management nor the WAFCON organisers had issued an official response to the allegations.

Despite the reported incident, the Super Falcons have continued preparations for the continental tournament, completing their final training activities in Casablanca with a 2-1 friendly victory over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring for Nigeria before Okoronkwo netted the winning goal to secure the victory.

The defending champions have since moved from Casablanca to Rabat, where they will begin their title defence against tournament debutants Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium on Tuesday.

Nigeria will also face Zambia and Egypt in Group C as they aim to secure a record-extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
