Tinubu To Media: Avoid Becoming A Platform For Those Who Wish Nigeria Harm
President Bola Tinubu has urged media organisations to uphold responsible journalism and avoid reporting that could undermine national security or provide undue publicity to criminal groups.
According to a report by Ireporter Online, the President made the appeal on Thursday during the maiden State House Press Corps Presidential Dinner held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu stressed that journalists have a critical role in safeguarding the nation by refusing to serve as channels for the messages of terrorists, kidnappers, and other criminal elements. He noted that such reporting could negatively impact public confidence and national security at a time when security agencies are intensifying operations against insurgents, dismantling criminal networks, and securing the release of kidnapped victims.
The President maintained that while the government has a duty to take decisive action against insecurity, the media must remain vigilant, ask questions, and hold public officials accountable without becoming a platform for those seeking to destabilise the country. He emphasized that responsible reporting is essential to preserving the nation’s safety and stability.
Meanwhile, Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a “miracle worker” and commending the scale of infrastructure projects executed under his administration.
Speaking on Thursday during the inauguration of the Old Keffi Road linking Kado Fish Market to Dei-Dei as part of activities marking Tinubu’s third year in office, Akpabio said no previous Nigerian president had commissioned as many projects within a similar period.
Representing the President at the event, the Senate President applauded Tinubu’s performance, stating that the administration’s infrastructure drive has set a new benchmark for project delivery across the country.
