N1.5 BILLION FARM BOOST: Senator Saliu Mustapha Launches Massive Agricultural Intervention, Distributes Fertilisers, Power Tillers, Water Pumps to Thousands of Kwara Farmers
In one of the largest agricultural empowerment programmes in Kwara State this planting season, Senator Saliu Mustapha has flagged off the distribution of over ₦1.5 billion worth of farm inputs and equipment to thousands of smallholder farmers under the Renewed Hope Farmers Support Scheme.
The intervention, launched in Ilorin, includes 5,000 bags of NPK fertiliser, 2,500 bags of urea fertiliser, 1,000 knapsack sprayers, 250 power tillers and 500 water pump machines, among other farming implements, to support increased agricultural productivity across the four Local Government Areas of Kwara Central.
The beneficiaries include members of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), AMANA Farmers Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA), KWACCIMMA’s Agricultural Section, women farmers, individual farmers and APC members actively engaged in agriculture.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Senator Mustapha, who chairs the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development, said the intervention is designed to strengthen food production, empower local farmers and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on food security.
He urged beneficiaries to maximise the use of the inputs to increase yields and improve their livelihoods, stressing that agriculture remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economy and one of the strongest drivers of job creation and rural prosperity.
The intervention was warmly received by stakeholders, with the Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kwara State Chapter, Engr. Shuaibu Ajibola Salman, and the Chairman of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), Kwara State, Mallam Soliu Mohammed, describing the programme as timely, impactful and capable of significantly improving food production across the state.
The initiative further reinforces Senator Saliu Mustapha’s growing reputation for combining legislative leadership with practical grassroots interventions aimed at improving the lives of his constituents and advancing Nigeria’s food security agenda.
