No Chance! Peter Obi’s Former Strategist Slams Atiku’s Unity Agenda”

Katchy Ononuju, a former Special Adviser on Public Affairs to Peter Obi, has dismissed the proposed 2027 opposition coalition as an unrealistic and futile idea.

He argued that any attempt at forming such a coalition would be rejected if the presidential ticket is not zoned to the South with Peter Obi as the presidential candidate. Ononuju claimed the coalition was nothing more than a pre-arranged strategy orchestrated by allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“The so-called coalition is just a fantasy—an idea pushed by Atiku’s inner circle aimed at preempting PDP governors who want the presidency zoned to the South,” he said. “Before the meeting even held, they were already suggesting that Peter Obi would be offered the vice presidency under Atiku. That’s unacceptable.”

Ononuju recounted the origins of the Obidient Movement, which he co-founded with Doyin Okupe, noting it was born out of frustration with the North’s resistance to zoning the presidency to the South.

“If there’s any talk of rebuilding the opposition, they must first examine why we broke away in the first place. It was because of the North’s refusal to respect the zoning arrangement. Now, the same Atiku loyalists are trying to draw Peter back into the fold—without even offering him a presidential ticket, just a VP slot. Where is that done?”

He concluded firmly, “This entire setup is a carefully crafted plan that we do not accept. It will not work—mark my words.”
