PDP Seeks Fresh Election In Ethiope Federal Constituency After Ibori-Suenu’s Defection To APC

In a statement issued on Friday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized that Ibori-Suenu’s defection legally voids her seat, citing Section 68 (1)(g) of the Nigerian Constitution. According to the provision, a member of the National Assembly must vacate their seat if they switch parties before the end of their term, provided their initial election was sponsored by a different party.

Ologunagba stressed that the defection has led to Ibori-Suenu’s irrevocable loss of her seat, rights, and privileges as a member of the House of Representatives. He also urged her to cease presenting herself as a sitting member, warning that such actions could lead to charges of impersonation.

The PDP has formally requested INEC to schedule the necessary election within the constitutionally mandated period. Additionally, the party has directed its National Legal Adviser to pursue legal action to safeguard the mandate and votes of the people of Ethiope East/Ethiope West, which were cast in favor of the PDP.

The PDP reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the people’s mandate is not taken away under any circumstances.
