Reps Member Dennis Idahosa Moves Motion To Strengthen Intelligence Gathering Capacity Of Security Agencies In Nigeria

Yesterday House of Reps Member representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon Dennis Idahosa moved a motion on the need to strengthen the intelligence gathering capacity of security agencies in Nigeria.

According to the lawmaker the recent rising sequence of insecurity across the country in the form of kidnapping, terrorism, cattle rustling, farmers/herders conflict, amongst others can be attributed to the death of timely and adequate intelligence gathering which has rendered security activities in the country ineffective, thus encouraging attacks by insurgents, bandits and kidnappers.

He decried the lack of professional handling of sensitive intelligence (information) which has led to colossal loss of lives and properties across the country, particularly in the North-East and North-West zone. He further condemned the lack of synergy between security operatives and the citizens.

Admitting his plea the House mandated the House Committee Of National Security and Intelligence to investigate the operational and co-operational lapses by Nigeria Intelligence Agencies which have led to the death of adequate intelligence and report back to the house within eight weeks for further legislative actions.
