Senate Leaders Urge Nigerians To Celebrate Christmas With Peace, Love, And Generosity”

According to Ireporter Online, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, love, and unity during the Christmas season. In a message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio emphasized the importance of spreading kindness and generosity at this festive period. He also urged citizens to remember the less privileged and extend support to those in need.

The Senate President highlighted that the birth of Jesus Christ exemplifies peace, love, and benevolence, noting that celebrations should be marked with joy and goodwill. “I urge you all to exude love throughout this period and beyond. Let us tolerate one another and strive to be our brother’s keeper,” he said. Akpabio further encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful amid challenges and prayed for national unity and progress, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s direction under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin called on Christians to uphold Christ’s teachings of love, peace, compassion, and sacrifice. In a statement issued by his media aide, Malam Ismail Mudashir, Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, urged citizens to pray for the nation and maintain faith in the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) urged churches to celebrate Christmas with heightened security awareness. CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh stressed that while the birth of Christ represents hope and God’s love, the safety of worshippers must remain a top priority. He advised church leaders, especially in high-risk areas, to take practical measures to protect congregations, including considering safer venues or smaller gatherings. Okoh called for increased collaboration with security agencies to ensure peaceful festivities and reminded Nigerians to reflect on Christmas values such as patience, sacrifice, and compassion despite economic and social challenges.

Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris assured Nigerians that the Federal Government will not take their resilience for granted. In a statement, Idris reiterated that President Tinubu remains committed to building a stronger and more prosperous nation, while encouraging citizens to promote unity, kindness, and gratitude toward security personnel.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu encouraged Christians to pray for national renewal amid ongoing socio-economic and security challenges. Abbas highlighted Jesus Christ’s virtues of humility, courage, and compassion, while Kalu emphasized love, charity, and reflection as central to the Christmas season.

Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, called for tolerance, unity, and peaceful coexistence. In a statement issued by his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, Abiru noted signs of economic recovery under President Tinubu, citing reforms such as fuel subsidy adjustments, foreign exchange unification, and fiscal discipline, which have improved GDP growth, foreign reserves, and investor confidence. He urged Nigerians to remain patient and steadfast as these measures lay the foundation for sustainable development.
