Tinubu Gov’t Set to Seal 30+ Strategic MoUs with Brazil in Landmark Abuja Dialogue

Nigeria and Brazil have commenced the second session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM) in Abuja, with expectations to sign over 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across key sectors.

According to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, alongside his wife and top government officials, has arrived in Nigeria for a three-day state visit.

This high-level diplomatic engagement is aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in strategic areas such as defence and security, agricultural technology, energy transition, industrial development, education, cultural exchange, and trade facilitation.

Vice President Kashim Shettima officially welcomed the Brazilian delegation at the State House Conference Centre. Other top Nigerian officials, including Deputy Chief of Staff Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Livestock Development Idi Maiha, and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari, were also in attendance.

Shettima is expected to host several bilateral sessions and social events during the visit, including a Brazil Gala Dinner, a joint press conference, and the official signing ceremonies of the MoUs.

Senator Hadejia described the event as “a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” stressing that Brazil’s experience in agribusiness, energy, and industrial transformation aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s national development goals.

“This dialogue underscores our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships to create tangible benefits for Nigerian citizens,” Hadejia said.

The dialogue is also expected to attract investment, foster technical cooperation, and open new strategic opportunities for private sector partnerships between both countries.

The SDM is part of Nigeria’s effort to enhance global diplomacy, drive economic reforms, and promote inclusive development by strengthening international partnerships in line with Tinubu’s administration’s priorities.
