Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Friday reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to completing all abandoned infrastructure projects in Abuja, citing the successful delivery of the Apo-Wasa Road as evidence.

Wike made the remarks during the commissioning of the Left-Hand Service Carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Stage II, which runs from Ring Road 1 Junction to Wasa Junction.

The minister explained that although the road was initially awarded in 2017 under a previous administration, it was left uncompleted due to non-payment of contractors. He said he made it a priority to ensure its completion upon assuming office.

“The road was first awarded in 2017 for $6 billion, but due to variations, the cost rose to $21 billion by 2021. Yet, work stalled because the contractors weren’t being paid,” Wike explained.

He emphasized that his administration’s policy is to complete all projects—regardless of who initiated them—and not merely award new ones for political credit.

“It’s important the public understands that our goal isn’t to award contracts for show. Whether a project was initiated during our tenure or by our predecessors, it must be completed. This road is a clear example,” he stated.

Wike’s commitment is part of a broader initiative to restore public trust in government infrastructure delivery and ensure taxpayer funds are not wasted on uncompleted contracts.
