Delta Police Nab Duo Caught Smoking on Patrol Van, Flaunting Drugs and Weapons

The Delta State Police Command has arrested two men after a viral video emerged showing them smoking what appeared to be marijuana atop a police patrol van and making lewd gestures toward officers. The incident, which sparked public outrage on social media, led to the swift apprehension of the suspects identified as 34-year-old Patrick Asini and 20-year-old Tega Ojo.

In the video, originally posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user @dammiedammie35, one of the suspects is seen seated on a police patrol van marked “Nigeria Police Force Anti-crime Patrol, Oghara Division.” As he smoked, a voice in the background is heard saying, “Tell them, f*** the cops, bro. Pass me some weed, man,” while gesturing obscenely at a distant officer. The scene appeared to have been filmed at a local car wash.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed their arrest in a statement shared on his official handle on Thursday. Edafe disclosed that several items were recovered from the suspects, including an army khaki uniform, a green beret, a face mask, an axe, a cutlass, six smartphones, four laptops, dried weed, grinders (used for crushing cannabis), and Rizla rolling papers.

The police spokesperson emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order and noted that the video not only showed a blatant disregard for the police force but also raised concerns about impersonation and the illegal possession of military-related gear. “Police is your friend. It just depends on how you interpret it,” Edafe wrote in his reaction.

The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Delta State to crack down on drug abuse, public misconduct, and the impersonation of security personnel.
