The Edo State Government has dismissed claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration spent N3.51 billion on travel expenses in the first half of 2025 as “AI-generated falsehood.”

In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, PDP Publicity Secretary Chris Nehikhare accused the administration of reckless spending while failing to attract foreign investments. “This waste comes when Edo recorded zero foreign investment while states like Lagos, Ogun and Kano made the NBS list,” Nehikhare stated, criticizing the government for prioritizing travel over infrastructure and public services.

However, Governor Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, fired back, describing the PDP’s allegations as “baseless and laughable.” Itua maintained that all official trips were strategic investments aimed at forging partnerships for Edo’s development.

“The same PDP that plundered Edo’s resources now pretends to be the conscience of the state,” Itua countered, accusing the opposition party of hypocrisy given its own record while in power. The government emphasized that no frivolous trips had been undertaken since Okpebholo assumed office.
