Ahead of Ondo 2024: IGP Assures Public Of Safety, Cautions Against Disruption
IGP emphasized that the security of the election will be handled solely by the Nigeria Police Force and federal agencies, with a strict ban on quasi-security groups participating.
IGP Egbetokun cautioned against any political interference or violence before, during, or after the election, warning that anyone involved in disruptive activities would face severe legal consequences.
The statement further details that extensive preparations are underway, including the deployment of a wide range of specialized units such as the Special Intervention Squad, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and K-9 Unit, as well as the use of aerial and waterway patrols to ensure comprehensive security across the state.
The IGP emphasized that all security measures will adhere to the Electoral Act, 2022, ensuring fairness and transparency. He also reiterated that no local or state-backed security groups, including Amotekun or Vigilante Corps, would be allowed to engage in election-related activities.
The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other federal security agencies, remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and orderly election in Ondo State on November 16, 2024.
