Akpabio Assures NASS Will End Rivers Political Crisis

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that the National Assembly is committed to resolving the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Kugbo Taxi and Bus Terminal in Abuja on Thursday, Akpabio emphasized the legislature’s role in restoring peace and ensuring political stability in the state.

He noted that active efforts were already in motion to tackle the root causes of the crisis and reconcile the various aggrieved factions.

“We are determined to ensure that normalcy returns to Rivers State. The National Assembly will work closely with all parties involved to ensure lasting peace and progress for the people,” Akpabio said.

The political turmoil in Rivers State began three months ago, leading to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the state assembly. President Bola Tinubu had declared a state of emergency and suspended Fubara for six months.

Since then, Governor Fubara has held meetings with both President Tinubu and his estranged political mentor, Nyesom Wike, in efforts aimed at reconciliation.

Wike, showing willingness to reconcile, recently advised Fubara to engage with other dissatisfied stakeholders in the state for a broader resolution.
