Akwa Ibom Man Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Five Children

Boniface was among several suspects paraded yesterday at the State Police Command headquarters in Uyo, where they were presented for various crimes. Police Commissioner Joseph Eribo confirmed that the stolen children were safely rescued and returned to their parents. Boniface was apprehended following a pursuit involving local villagers and police operatives, with the motorcycle used in the crime also recovered.

When questioned, Boniface claimed he found the children stranded in the rain and decided to take them. He further stated, “It is the situation that led me to do it. This is my first time doing something like this.”

In another operation on November 27, 2024, police clashed with armed men attempting to abduct a man along the Ikot Ekpene-Uyo Highway. One suspect was killed in the gunfight, and others fled. The police recovered a cut-to-size AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and suspected charms.

Further investigation led to a raid on a gun-making factory where firearms were being produced for criminals. One suspect, David Nse Emmanuel, was arrested, while others involved fled. Seized items included multiple firearms and materials used for manufacturing guns.

The police also paraded suspects involved in armed robbery and vehicle theft, with items like stolen cars and weapons recovered.

Police Commissioner Eribo assured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining security and fighting crime, reaffirming Akwa Ibom’s status as one of Nigeria’s safest states. Investigations continue, and the suspects will be charged in court.
