Three Ministries for Effective Oversight
Aminu Abdullahi emphasizes the rationale behind the creation of three education ministries, a move backed by the National Council of Education to ensure effective supervision over the state’s vast educational landscape. This structure includes ministries focused on basic and secondary education, science and technology, and higher education, all working collaboratively for a unified educational approach.
Focus on Higher Education
The Ministry of Higher Education is dedicated to overseeing tertiary institutions, encompassing diploma, certificate, and degree-awarding bodies. Abdullahi outlines their mandate, which involves developing educational policies, conducting needs assessments, and aiding institutions in securing necessary accreditations.
Reviving Fallen Standards
Upon taking office, Abdullahi found the educational sector in disrepair, with plummeting morale and deteriorating facilities. Immediate actions were taken by Governor Aliyu, such as restoring power to the state university and addressing infrastructure needs, leading to a revitalization of the learning environment.
Commitment to Transformation
Highlighting the governor’s dedication, Abdullahi notes that all outstanding salaries owed to educational staff have been paid, with damages and dilapidations promptly addressed. Ensuring a conducive environment for learning is pivotal for improving student performance.
Collaborative Efforts Against Out-of-School Children
Abdullahi acknowledges the challenge of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria, but reassures that the government is implementing policies to improve access to education and encourage a more responsible approach to family planning.
Budget Allocation Exceeds International Standards
Governor Aliyu has significantly prioritized education funding, exceeding UNESCO’s recommended 25% allocation in recent budgets. Abdullahi expresses gratitude for the governor’s backing in cashing out approved budgets, reflecting a serious commitment to transforming Sokoto’s educational landscape.
Maintaining Affordable Education
Despite widespread economic challenges, Sokoto State remains committed to keeping fees stable in educational institutions and continues to offer scholarships and incentives to encourage student enrollment.

Governor Aliyu views education as an essential investment in human capital, aiming to foster skilled professionals to support the state’s economic development. The recent graduation of medical professionals exemplifies this objective.
Emphasis on Entrepreneurship
