Delta Drama: APC Snatches Labour Party Lawmaker in Stunning Defection

The lawmaker representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ngozi Okolie, has officially announced his defection from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Asaba on Saturday, Okolie expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current state of the Labour Party, citing disarray and lack of direction as key factors behind his exit.

According to him, the decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to foster development and attract greater opportunities to his constituency.

“Many politicians are leaving their parties for the APC. Today, I am also stepping away from the Labour Party. While the future is uncertain, I believe this move will bring progress and developmental projects to my constituency,” Okolie said.

He didn’t hold back in criticizing the Labour Party, describing it as beset by internal wrangling and a lack of organisational coherence. Okolie maintained that remaining in such a party would stifle his effectiveness in the National Assembly.

“Frankly, the Labour Party is currently very disorganized, with no clear direction. The unresolved issues have become a major setback. Staying in such a party hampers my ability to perform and grow within the legislature,” he added.

The lawmaker said his decision was rooted in the need to better serve his people, stating that the APC offered a more viable platform for securing vital constituency projects.

“I believe resigning from the Labour Party to join a party that can help deliver real development to my community is the right path. Waiting indefinitely for Labour Party’s problems to be resolved is no longer feasible,” he said.

Okolie also noted the shifting political landscape in Delta State, where key figures, including the state governor and traditional rulers, have thrown their support behind the APC. He believes aligning with the ruling party would bring added benefits to his constituents.

“For now, I’m aligning with the APC. Our traditional rulers have endorsed the president, the state governor has moved to the APC, and even PDP members are joining. It makes strategic sense to follow suit for the good of my constituency,” Okolie concluded.
