to ireporteronline, the EFCC, in a letter signed by Michael Wetkas, acting director of the Lagos Directorate, instructed the brothers to appear at the commission’s special operations office on 15A Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025.

The controversy stems from a viral video in which the Okoya brothers are seen tossing Naira notes into the air while dancing, with a uniformed policeman holding bundles of cash in the background. This act, widely criticized, violates Nigeria’s laws against currency abuse.

The police officer featured in the video has since been detained and is undergoing disciplinary measures, as revealed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.

In an online apology, one of the brothers, Raheem, expressed remorse for their actions, stating:
“To the Nigerian people, my actions were not intended to cause trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive. I deeply regret the incident and ask for forgiveness and understanding as I navigate this situation.”

The EFCC’s actions reflect its commitment to enforcing laws against Naira abuse and ensuring accountability for high-profile figures.
