Ex-Chief Of Staff Gambari Reveals What Hurt Buhari Most In Office

According to Ireporter Online, former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Gambari, has revealed that the late president was deeply troubled by the persistent insecurity in Nigeria during his tenure.

Speaking on Channels Television, Gambari noted that while Buhari made significant progress against the Boko Haram insurgency, ongoing violence and banditry in the North-West and parts of the North-Central regions remained a source of great concern for him.

“One of the things that pained him the most was that he was unable to do more about the security situation in the country before he left,” Gambari said. He added that Buhari’s efforts ensured that no Nigerian territory remained under Boko Haram control, but the continued attacks in other regions weighed heavily on the former president.

Gambari further addressed circulating claims of coup threats prior to the end of Buhari’s administration, following remarks by the Minister of Defence about potential security threats before President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration. He stated that he was unaware of any intelligence of such threats reaching Buhari through his office.

“Honestly, I’m not aware of that. The president had many sources of information. The Chief of Staff is probably a principal one, but not the only one. He could have received information that I was not privy to,” Gambari explained.
