Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Horror: 6 Dead After Trailer Crashes
Six passengers have died and 23 others were injured in a road accident near the Foursquare Camp along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, authorities confirmed on Monday.
According to a statement by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abeokuta, the crash was caused by driver fatigue and speeding, which resulted in the loss of control of the vehicle. The FRSC’s Public Relations Officer, Odunsin Afolabi, said the incident occurred at approximately 11:27 a.m., with emergency responders arriving at the scene within two minutes.
The vehicle involved, a DAF CF 380 trailer with registration number SNA 287 XA, was the only vehicle in the accident. Afolabi stated that a total of 29 people were affected, with six fatalities and 23 injuries. The injured and deceased were taken to Oreoluwa Hospital, GOFAMINT Camp in Ogunmakin, and Victory Hospital, Ogere.
Afolabi also warned against the practice of mixed loading of passengers and livestock, noting that it increases the risk of fatalities during transit. The FRSC urged motorists, particularly operators of heavy vehicles, to regularly service their vehicles, maintain safe speeds, and adhere strictly to all road safety regulations.
