Uzodinma Gifts ₦30M and Land to Imo-Born Super Falcons After WAFCON Triumph
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has honoured seven Super Falcons players of Imo origin with ₦30 million each and plots of land located in prime areas of Owerri, following Nigeria’s triumphant campaign at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.
According to IReporter Online, the announcement was made during a high-profile dinner reception hosted at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Owerri. The event was organized to recognize and celebrate the athletes’ pivotal roles in Nigeria’s historic 12th WAFCON title.
Governor Uzodinma, in his remarks, said the gesture was a deliberate move by the state to reward excellence and inspire young girls to pursue sports with confidence. He praised the athletes for making both Nigeria and Imo State proud, describing their performance as heroic and inspirational.
Each of the honorees received a cash reward of ₦30 million and a plot of land within Owerri’s most desirable locations. The governor emphasized that the recognition was not only a token of appreciation but a call to action for the next generation of female athletes to dream big and compete for global acclaim.
Among the players honoured were team captain and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, alongside Jennifer Echegini, Tochukwu Oluchi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Osinachi Ohale, Michelle Alozie, and Ifeoma Onumonu. Technical crew members from the state were also included in the reward package.
Governor Uzodinma also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for being the first to recognize the team’s victory, stating that the Federal Government had set the tone for meaningful reward and national pride. He affirmed that Imo State would continue investing in sports development to nurture future champions.
He further addressed young girls in Imo, urging them to find inspiration in the Super Falcons’ success. He encouraged them to break boundaries, aim for greatness, and refuse to be limited by societal expectations.
Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr. Obinna Onyeocha, commended Governor Uzodinma for his unwavering support for sports. He said the governor’s commitment to rewarding athletic excellence had elevated morale across the state and cemented Imo’s status as a sports-focused administration.
The ceremony was attended by key government officials, traditional leaders, sports enthusiasts, and relatives of the players. The celebratory mood reflected the pride and unity inspired by the Falcons’ victory on the continental stage.
