AC Milan Turn Attention To Pochettino After Missing Champions League Spot

According to Ireporter Online, AC Milan have opened discussions with Mauricio Pochettino as the Italian giants intensify their search for a new manager following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri.

The club’s decision comes in the wake of a disappointing Serie A campaign that saw the Rossoneri fall short of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League, prompting a major shake-up in the technical area.

Pochettino, who currently serves as head coach of the United States men’s national team, has reportedly emerged as a leading candidate on Milan’s shortlist. The Argentine is preparing the U.S. squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Reports from BBC Sport indicate that while Pochettino remains fully focused on his national team duties ahead of the tournament, AC Milan are considering him as a long-term option, with a potential move expected after his contract with U.S. Soccer expires following the World Cup.

The 54-year-old has been without a club role since leaving Chelsea at the end of the 2023–24 season, where he guided the London side to a sixth-place Premier League finish and a Carabao Cup final appearance during his lone campaign in charge.

Prior to that, he spent 18 months at Paris Saint-Germain, winning the Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France. He is also widely respected for his successful spell at Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent over five years and famously led the club to the UEFA Champions League final in 2019.

His managerial journey also includes time at Southampton and Espanyol, following a playing career in which he represented Argentina as a defender, earning 20 international caps.

AC Milan parted ways with Allegri after finishing fifth in Serie A, following a 2-1 defeat to Cagliari on the final day of the season. Despite securing a place in the UEFA Europa League, the club hierarchy reportedly viewed the campaign as below expectations, particularly after missing out on Champions League qualification for a second consecutive season.

The club is now expected to continue evaluating managerial options as it looks to rebuild and return to Europe’s elite competition.
