Speaking during a programme on TVC News on Thursday, Kolade-Otitoju questioned why both Makinde and Bala Mohammed failed to obtain presidential nomination forms from the PDP faction reportedly led by Taminu Turaki.

According to reports, the broadcaster argued that Makinde’s political calculations may have influenced his decision not to participate in the PDP presidential process. He maintained that the Oyo State governor was aware that his chances of making the ballot could depend on joining another political platform.

Kolade-Otitoju also dismissed speculations surrounding an opposition merger ahead of future elections, insisting that no legitimate coalition or merger could be recognised without the involvement of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Drawing comparisons with the formation of the All Progressives Congress in 2013, he stated that the circumstances surrounding the APC’s emergence were different from the current political alignments being discussed. He added that political actors who lose influence within existing structures cannot simply declare a merger without following due process involving the electoral regulator.
