Kano Senate Race: Six APC Aspirants Withdraw, Back Shekarau

According to reports monitored by IReporter Online, the aspirants—Usman Bala, Sha’aban Sharada, Muhammad Zango, Danyaro Yakasai, Abbas Sani Abbas and Shehu Isa Driver—announced their decision after a lengthy strategic meeting held in Abuja.

The meeting, which reportedly lasted several hours, was said to have been convened by Abba Kabir Yusuf as part of efforts to foster unity and strengthen political cooperation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the aspirants said they chose to step down in order to promote peace, solidarity, and stability within Kano State. They explained that supporting Shekarau was a collective decision aimed at consolidating the party and improving its chances in the upcoming polls.

Shekarau’s endorsement comes shortly after his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC. The former governor announced his switch during a gathering at his residence on Mundubawa Avenue in Kano, stating that the move followed extensive consultations and careful consideration of his political future.

He joined the APC alongside Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, marking a notable political shift in Kano and further strengthening the party’s influence in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
