APC Expels 30 Members Over Legal Action Against Party

According to Ireporter Online, the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled 30 of its members for taking the party to court.

The decision was reached during a State Executive Committee meeting held in Awka, the state capital, and presided over by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. J. C. Okeke.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Valentine Oliobi, said the expulsion was carried out in line with Article 21, Subsection 5 of the APC Constitution. He explained that the affected members had instituted legal action against the party despite being part of its internal structure, noting that some of them were aspirants for the House of Representatives who had already obtained nomination forms.

Oliobi stated that the party would only reconsider the expelled members if they withdrew the cases filed against it.

The meeting also ratified the constitution of both the election and disciplinary committees for the state chapter. The disciplinary committee is chaired by Senator Margery Chuba-Okadigbo, with Dr. Mrs. Chioma Ejikeme, Dame Jessie Balonwu, Dr. Amobi Nwokafor, Ichie Mike Ejezie, and Barr. C. N. Madubueze as members, while Sir Chris Chikwelu Jr will serve as secretary.

Similarly, the Primary Election Committee is chaired by Hon. Izu Okeke, with Mrs. Ifeyinwa Okonkwo, Engr. Osita Oraegbunam, and Chief Joe Ofokansi as members, while Comrade Carl Mbanefo will serve as secretary.

Oliobi further disclosed that 21 local government chairmen of the party were inaugurated at the meeting and are expected to proceed with the inauguration of ward officials across their respective areas. He added that a director in charge of security has also been appointed.

He also confirmed that aspirants for the State House of Assembly were screened by a committee from Abuja and all 30 aspirants were cleared, while aspirants across the 11 federal constituencies in the state also received clearance.
