You Will End Up On Your Knees When We Retaliate” – Oshiomhole Slams South African President
According to Ireporter Online, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called on the Federal Government to take decisive steps over the continued attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, urging a firm diplomatic and economic response.
Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, the former Edo State governor advocated for possible retaliatory measures targeting South African businesses operating in Nigeria, amid rising tensions over reported assaults on Nigerian nationals in South Africa.
Oshiomhole suggested that the government should consider revoking the operating licences of major South African-owned companies such as MTN and DSTV, arguing that Nigeria must not remain passive in the face of what he described as persistent hostility against its citizens.
“I am not going to shed tears. If you hit me, I hit you. I think it is appropriate in diplomacy. It is an economic struggle,” he stated.
He further argued that Nigerians should not be portrayed as job stealers in South Africa, noting instead that citizens should also take advantage of employment opportunities created by South African companies operating in Nigeria.
“When we hit back, the President of South Africa will not only talk but will also go on his knees to recognise that Nigeria cannot be intimidated,” he added.
Oshiomhole stressed that while lawful prosecution of offenders in South Africa should be allowed, the killing of Nigerians must not be tolerated under any circumstance, insisting that Nigeria must respond strongly to protect its citizens.
“We will not condone any life being lost. If a crime has been committed under South African law, they have the right to bring any such person to justice, but to kill our people as if we are helpless, we will not allow that,” he said.
