According to Ireporter Online, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has described former presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as a politician who frequently shifts political allegiance, following his recent movements between political platforms.

Kwankwaso had on March 30 reportedly joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal crises within the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). However, just days later on April 3, he was said to have moved again to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. The move was linked to reactions following a Supreme Court judgement concerning the leadership structure of the ADC.

In an interview with BBC Hausa that later surfaced online, Ganduje said although he and Kwankwaso share similar political origins, the former NNPP leader has continued to search for new political platforms over time. He further noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State had anticipated the political difficulties surrounding Kwankwaso’s camp, which influenced strategic realignments that eventually strengthened APC’s position in the state.

Ganduje maintained that Kwankwaso’s recent political decisions would not pose any significant threat to the APC ahead of upcoming elections. He also argued that the coalition Kwankwaso joined is made up of individuals with differing ambitions, claiming such internal interests could lead to divisions within the alliance.

He further added that the APC currently enjoys growing influence across the country, citing the alignment of several state governors with the party.

Kwankwaso has not publicly responded to Ganduje’s latest remarks at the time of filing this report.
