Governor Bala Mohammed Names Elder Brother As First Emir Of Duguri

According to Ireporter Online, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has appointed his elder brother, Adamu Mohammed Duguri, as the first Emir of Duguri in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

The announcement was formally confirmed on Friday when a delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Aminu Hammayo, presented the letter of appointment to Duguri at his palace. The newly installed monarch has also been accorded a first-class status.

Following the official presentation and the ceremonial turbaning, accompanied by the traditional beating of the drum 24 times, the new Emir declared that he would henceforth be known and addressed as Adamu Ahmed III.

During the ceremony, Hammayo, representing the Governor, urged the new Emir to uphold the constitution and the Bauchi State Chieftaincy Law 2025. He further advised him to rule with fairness, justice, and impartiality, ensuring peace and unity among the diverse groups within his domain.

“The Governor has directed that you lead your people with equity and without any form of ethno-religious sentiment. Your reign should focus on fostering harmony and peaceful coexistence across the emirate,” Hammayo stated.

In his response, the Emir expressed profound gratitude to the state government and described the appointment as a fulfilment of a long-standing dream. “Today marks a historic moment. Our forefathers envisioned this day, and we thank Almighty Allah for granting us the privilege to witness it,” he said.

This appointment follows Governor Bala Mohammed’s recent assent to the Chieftaincy Appointment and Deposition Law, which enabled the creation of 13 new emirates and over 111 district heads across Bauchi State. The new legislation also repealed the Sayawa Chiefdom and established the Zaar Chiefdom, headquartered in Mhrim Namchi, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.

The newly created emirates include Burra, Duguri, Dambam, Bununu, Lere, Darazo, Jama’a, Lame, Toro, Ari, Warji, Giade, and Gamawa.
