Viral Tiktoker Admits Bandit Attack Story Was Just For Followers

According to reports, Oloyede was arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command attached to the Atan Ota Division on May 23, 2026, after the videos sparked fear and widespread concern among residents who believed the clips showed a real bandit invasion.

In a video released by the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspect explained during interrogation that he created his TikTok account earlier in the year to promote his fashion business before joining a trending “bandit-themed” challenge that had gained traction on the platform.

Speaking in Yoruba, Oloyede revealed that his intention was to gain visibility online and build a larger audience similar to popular streamer Habeeb Hamzat. He maintained that he had no knowledge of any actual bandit activity and only participated in the trend for content creation purposes.

The suspect disclosed that he used a bush located behind his shop as the filming location because several other creators who participated in the trend also recorded their videos in isolated areas. He added that some young men staying with him assisted in producing the clips.

Oloyede further stated that the first video generated massive reactions, with many viewers questioning whether the attack was genuine. Although he claimed to have clarified in some comments that the content was fictional, he proceeded to make additional videos.

He also recounted involving a Fulani herder who frequently grazed cattle near his residence. According to him, he conceived another storyline suggesting an attempt to steal from the herder’s compound after seeing the cattle nearby. He said the herder initially declined participation, but his brother eventually recorded the interaction while he was trying to persuade the man, and the footage was later uploaded online.

The fashion designer disclosed that his TikTok account had roughly 60 followers before the videos gained attention, but the number reportedly increased to over 1,000 after the clips went viral.

Oloyede insisted that he never intended to create panic but simply hoped the content would help him gain recognition online.

Reacting to the development, the Ogun State Police Command said the suspect circulated false and misleading content capable of causing fear and tension within the community.
