Police Bust Seven-Man Kidnap Gang, Recover ₦7.5m Ransom In Katsina

According to Ireporter Online, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated intelligence-led operation executed by the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit of the command. The police also confirmed the recovery of ₦7.5 million, believed to be part of the ransom paid by the victim’s family, alongside a Peugeot 307 vehicle, a Boxer motorcycle, and other incriminating exhibits.

The victim was reportedly abducted on May 13, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. while returning home from an Islamic school. The kidnappers later contacted the family and demanded ₦50 million for his release. After negotiations, the family was said to have paid ₦17 million before the child was freed.

Following the report, police operatives launched an investigation and, through sustained intelligence gathering, tracked and arrested six members of the syndicate on Friday. The suspects were identified as Nura Aliyu, 39; Abubakar Aminu, 37; Ibrahim Muhammad, 51; Iliyasu Sani, 51; Abubakar Muhammad, 27; and Abdullahi Isma’il, 30.

Investigations further revealed that Nura Aliyu, described as the alleged mastermind, was a neighbour to the victim’s family. The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation and also mentioned an accomplice identified simply as Abdul, who is currently at large.

The police command stated that efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure all individuals connected to the crime are brought to justice. The recovered items, including the ransom money and vehicles, have been secured as exhibits for further investigation.

Reacting to the development, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the operatives for their swift response, professionalism, and effective coordination. He noted that the success of the operation reflects the command’s renewed commitment to combating kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes across the state.

He further assured residents of continued strengthening of intelligence-led policing and operational strategies aimed at safeguarding lives and property, while urging the public to consistently provide timely and useful information to aid security efforts.
