According to Ireporter Online, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the price of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) by ₦200 per litre, bringing the depot price down from ₦1,800 to ₦1,600 per litre. The adjustment is said to have taken effect on May 26 and is linked to renewed market competition following the arrival of imported fuel cargoes into the country.

Industry sources note that the influx of imported petroleum products has increased supply in the downstream sector, putting pressure on local pricing. Stakeholders within the sector explained that the development followed the discharge of fuel-laden vessels in Nigeria, a situation that has altered the supply dynamics in recent days. The move also comes amid ongoing discussions around fuel import licensing, with some marketers previously granted approvals to bring in petroleum products, further intensifying market competition.

Observers say the price reduction could ease operational and transportation costs for businesses that rely heavily on diesel for logistics and production, provided the new pricing trend remains stable.
