London Set To Host 2026 Ballon D’Or Ceremony

The Ballon d’Or ceremony will be staged in London for the first time in 2026, marking a historic return to England as organisers celebrate the 70th anniversary of the prestigious award first presented to England legend Stanley Matthews in 1956.

According to Ireporter Online, organisers confirmed on May 28 that the 2026 edition of the ceremony is scheduled for October 26, although the exact venue within the English capital has not yet been disclosed.

The Ballon d’Or remains football’s most coveted individual honour and has, in the modern era, been largely defined by the extraordinary dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, whose rivalry reshaped the global game.

Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembélé won the 2025 edition of the award at a ceremony held in Paris and organised by Groupe L’Équipe, owners of France Football magazine.

Messi continues to hold the record for the most Ballon d’Or titles, having won it eight times in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021 and 2023, with his most dominant spell coming between 2009 and 2012 when he secured four consecutive crowns while dazzling world football with his creativity, dribbling and prolific scoring.

Cristiano Ronaldo follows closely with five Ballon d’Or wins in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017, built on his explosive athleticism, clinical finishing and consistency at the highest level across Europe.

The long-standing rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest in sporting history, as both legends pushed each other to unprecedented heights while rewriting football’s record books over more than a decade.
