Ogun APC Fires Back At Adebutu Camp, Dismisses ‘Stranger’ Tag Against Yayi
According to Ireporter Online, the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations from the Ladi Adebutu Democratic Organisation (LADO) questioning the indigeneship of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, insisting that the claims were politically motivated and without constitutional basis.
The controversy followed comments by the spokesperson of LADO, Afolabi Orekoya, during a radio programme on a private FM station in Ilese-Ijebu, where he questioned Adeola’s origin and argued that the 2027 elections should not be “handed over to a stranger” unfamiliar with Ogun State’s political landscape.
Reacting in a statement issued on Thursday by the Ogun APC Publicity Secretary, Nuberu Olufemi, the party described the remarks as reckless, mischievous, and inconsistent with both facts and the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution on citizenship and electoral eligibility.
The APC further argued that Senator Adeola has both maternal and paternal ties to Abeokuta and Yewaland, adding that his representation of Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly further reinforces his deep connection to the state.
The party accused the opposition of resorting to propaganda aimed at diverting attention from what it described as the internal crisis and disintegration within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
It also highlighted ongoing defections from the PDP, including former state chairman Sikirulai Ogundele and several members of the State House of Assembly, describing the party as increasingly unstable and losing public confidence.
The statement further referenced ongoing legal challenges facing PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu over allegations linked to vote-buying and money laundering during the 2023 governorship election, arguing that such issues weaken his political standing.
Reaffirming its position, the APC maintained that Senator Adeola remains a strong contender ahead of the 2027 elections, citing his grassroots engagement, developmental projects, and economic blueprint as key factors driving his popularity across Ogun State.
