Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has formally withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election scheduled for Thursday, May 21.

According to Ireporter Online, the governor announced his decision in a personally signed statement, explaining that it was made after deep reflection and extensive consultations with family members, friends, and political associates. He said the move was guided by the need to preserve peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State.

Fubara stated that although the decision was difficult, leadership sometimes requires personal ambition to give way to the collective interest of the people. He emphasized that Rivers State remains greater than any individual and that the current priority must be the peace and progress of the state.

The governor also expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty, prayers, and sacrifices throughout the political process, acknowledging that many would be disappointed by his withdrawal. He noted that his recent silence was deliberate and strategic, aimed at protecting the broader interest of the state.

He further hinted at facing significant pressures during the political process, stressing that not all experiences are meant for public discussion. According to him, some matters are best handled with restraint and wisdom in the interest of peace.

Fubara thanked the leadership of the APC for the opportunity afforded to him during the process and also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support. He urged party members to remain united and committed to the party, describing it as a collective political home.

He maintained that his withdrawal should not be seen as weakness or surrender, but as a conscious sacrifice for the stability of Rivers State, adding that he remains committed to serving the people until the end of his tenure.
