Why We’re Tolerating Wike – APC Chair Yilwatda Speaks Out
According to Ireporter Online, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has explained that the party is currently tolerating and accommodating the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, due to existing political understandings between the ruling APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday after a meeting with APC stakeholders, Yilwatda noted that the party’s cooperation with Wike is based on an agreement that allows him to operate within a working arrangement involving both the APC and the PDP, following formal approval reportedly obtained from his party before taking up his ministerial role.
He further clarified that the arrangement reflects a broader political understanding, stressing that Wike continues to honour the terms of the working relationship established between the two parties.
The APC chairman also expressed concern over rising tensions within the party in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly between founding members and some defectors from the PDP, whom he accused of attempting to dominate the party structure. He urged long-standing members of the APC not to allow internal pressure or external influence to weaken their standing within the party.
Yilwatda disclosed that over ₦250 million has been allocated for the conduct of ward and state congresses in the FCT, adding that the party is prioritising unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. He appealed to stakeholders to put aside ethnic, religious, and political differences in order to strengthen cohesion within the party.
He emphasized the need for inclusiveness in decision-making and equitable distribution of elective and appointive positions, stating that all groups within the party must feel a sense of belonging to ensure stability and electoral success in the next general polls.
