Antonio Conte has officially parted ways with Napoli by mutual consent, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure at the Serie A club despite still having a contract running until 2027.

According to Ireporter Online, the club confirmed the development on Sunday in a brief four-word statement, less than 24 hours after Conte publicly announced his decision to step down during a tense press conference alongside Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Conte’s exit closes a turbulent season in Naples, one that still ended with Napoli finishing second in Serie A following a 1-0 victory over Udinese on the final day, securing the runners-up spot behind champions Inter Milan.

Tensions reportedly escalated after De Laurentiis suggested the team could have won the title “without injuries,” a claim Conte quickly dismissed, insisting Inter Milan fully deserved their triumph.

Conte also used his farewell remarks to reflect on what he described as a challenging atmosphere around the club and city, stating that he struggled to unify the environment during his spell in charge.

He further suggested that external pressures made it difficult to compete with Italy’s top sides, admitting he ultimately realised he could not change the situation and chose to step aside.

The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager expressed gratitude to De Laurentiis for the opportunity and thanked the fans for their support, despite what he called a difficult and emotionally charged experience in Naples.
