It’s Obvious I Don’t Own What You Have” – Lamido Blasts Malami Over ‘Thief’ Claims

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has strongly criticised former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, amid their lingering feud over past corruption allegations. According to Ireporter Online, Lamido, during a recent interview, revisited the period when Malami, while serving as Minister of Justice, instituted legal action against him over alleged financial misconduct.

In his remarks, Lamido appeared to draw a contrast between his personal assets and those allegedly linked to Malami, referencing ongoing scrutiny involving agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Department of State Services. He maintained that he does not possess the level of assets attributed to the former Attorney-General, questioning claims previously made against him.

Lamido also addressed mounting pressure from critics urging him to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, describing such calls as selective and inconsistent. He pointed to the political engagements of figures like Ibrahim Shekarau and meetings involving President Bola Tinubu, noting that similar cross-party interactions have not attracted the same level of scrutiny.

While reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, Lamido suggested that political collaboration remains a possibility if it aligns with his ideological stance. He emphasised that alliances across party lines are not unusual within Nigeria’s political landscape.

On the long-standing corruption case involving the EFCC, Lamido expressed concern over the prolonged legal process, stating that the matter has remained in court for about a decade. He further alleged that the case was politically motivated, claiming it was initiated during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan to derail his presidential ambition at the time.

Commenting on internal disputes within the PDP, particularly surrounding the role of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Lamido insisted that his stance is rooted in principle rather than personal interest. He maintained that his position is guided by legality and the party’s standing with the electoral body, reaffirming his commitment to what he described as truth and due process.
