The judgment stems from a lawsuit brought by 20 PDP members, including executives from Oguduokwor, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, under case number FHC/AI/CS/FHR/197. The plaintiffs sought compensation for violations of their fundamental human rights due to what they labeled as false and damaging accusations made by Odefa.

Justice Hilary I. O. Oshomah, in his ruling, concluded that Odefa had “maliciously” involved law enforcement in a political matter by alleging that the plaintiffs had forged documents to facilitate his suspension from the PDP in Oguduokwor Ward, without providing supporting evidence.

The court found no substantiation for Odefa’s forgery claims and ruled that his actions constituted an abuse of the judicial process. An order was issued to prevent Odefa and the police from further harassing, arresting, or intimidating the plaintiffs concerning matters related to his suspension from the party.

Each of the 20 plaintiffs was awarded ₦5 million in damages, totaling ₦100 million, which must be paid within seven days of the ruling, with a 10% daily interest penalty for any delays.

Odefa’s expulsion from the PDP was confirmed on December 12, 2024, following a recommendation from the party’s disciplinary committee, which found him guilty of anti-party activities.
