Daughter of former Nigerian president and Ogun State governorship aspirant, Iyabo Obasanjo, has visited Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence, where discussions centered on her political ambition and the future of the state.
According to Ireporter Online, Obasanjo, in a statement released on Tuesday, disclosed that she formally briefed the president on her intention to contest the Ogun State governorship seat and presented her development blueprint for the state. She outlined key priorities spanning governance, infrastructure development, and improved public service delivery, emphasizing her readiness to provide purposeful leadership if elected.
She further reflected on her long-standing political relationship with President Tinubu, describing it as one shaped by years of engagement and mutual respect, which she said has significantly influenced her leadership philosophy and political trajectory.
Obasanjo noted that her meeting with the president was productive and forward-looking, focusing on leadership, governance, and national as well as state-level development, particularly in Ogun State.
During the engagement, she reaffirmed her loyalty to the ruling party and pledged to mobilise support for President Tinubu ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking on her ambition to succeed Dapo Abiodun in 2027, Obasanjo stressed her deep familiarity with the political landscape of Ogun State, highlighting her years of experience and understanding of the people’s needs and challenges. She maintained that effective governance requires experience and a clear vision, noting that her administration would prioritise education, healthcare, and job creation.
She emphasized the need to build a state where young people have access to employment opportunities, educational institutions nurture future leaders, and healthcare systems adequately serve citizens. Obasanjo added that her commitment remains to drive inclusive development and improve the overall quality of life across all parts of Ogun State if entrusted with leadership.
