BREAKING: Correctional Service Declares Escaped Yobe Inmate Wanted

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Yobe State Command, has declared a 30-year-old convicted inmate wanted after he escaped following a road accident involving a correctional service vehicle transporting inmates from Potiskum to Damaturu.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Corrections (DSC) Abdullahi Adamu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday in Damaturu. He explained that the crash occurred on April 13, 2026, while inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum were being conveyed to Damaturu.

The statement noted that the escape happened amid efforts to rescue victims of the accident. The fleeing inmate was identified as Dahiru Mohammed, aged 30, bearing prison number J/1539/24, and had been admitted into custody on November 29, 2024.

The Correctional Service described the escapee as dangerous and urged members of the public to avoid any form of contact or assistance to him. It further appealed to residents to report any useful information that could lead to his re-arrest, advising that such information be reported to the nearest police station or correctional facility.

Authorities also warned that harbouring a fugitive is a criminal offence punishable under the law.
