According to Ireporter Online, Tony Akiotu, the former Group Managing Director of Daar Communications, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) after securing a decisive victory over Raymond Dokpesi Jr. at the organisation’s biennial election held in Abuja on Wednesday, 8 April 2026. Akiotu emerged winner with 62 votes, while Dokpesi Jr. polled 9 votes.

In his acceptance remarks, Akiotu expressed gratitude to members for their overwhelming support, describing the outcome as a strong mandate to reposition and strengthen Nigeria’s broadcasting sector. He pledged to lead BON with integrity, transparency, and a renewed commitment to innovation aimed at advancing the industry.

He further emphasised the importance of unity among broadcasting stakeholders, noting that effective collaboration remains essential in addressing the sector’s challenges.
