Military Assures Secure Sallah Celebrations In North-East Region
According to Ireporter Online, the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has assured residents of the North-East region of robust security measures ahead of the Eid El Kabir celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the military confirmed that comprehensive security arrangements had already been activated across the theatre to ensure a peaceful celebration, despite ongoing threats from remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The command extended its felicitations to Muslim faithful across the region, wishing them a peaceful and joyful Eid celebration. It further disclosed that credible intelligence indicated possible attempts by insurgent elements to exploit the festive period to launch isolated attacks on civilian targets, including the use of suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices in densely populated areas.
However, OPHK reassured the public that such threats had been anticipated and countermeasures fully deployed. The statement noted that troops had been strategically forward-deployed to vulnerable and critical locations across all sectors, while surveillance and intelligence operations had been intensified to detect and neutralise any threat.
It added that security patrols had been stepped up in coordination with sister security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and community-based vigilance groups to ensure the safety of residents during the festive period. Citizens were urged to remain alert, avoid overcrowded areas where possible, and promptly report suspicious movements or objects to security authorities.
The military further advised residents to observe Eid prayers and celebrations within their immediate communities, while exercising heightened caution in public places such as markets, motor parks, banking halls, and prayer grounds. It also called on the public to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening operations and to refrain from circulating unverified information capable of causing panic.
OPHK appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders to support ongoing security efforts by ensuring timely dissemination of credible information. Reaffirming its readiness, the command stated that troops remained fully deployed, alert, and in control of the security situation.
The statement concluded that the military remains resolute in denying terrorist groups any freedom of action, assuring that the Eid celebrations would proceed in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and dignity across the region.
