Manhunt Begins: Anambra Vows Justice for Murdered Fish Magnet CEO

The Anambra State Government has vowed to bring justice to the family of Mr. Martin Ifesinachi Onyekesi, the late founder of Fish Magnet, who was kidnapped and murdered despite the payment of ransom. The tragic killing of Onyekesi, a prominent fish dealer in Awka, has sparked outrage and renewed calls for urgent security reforms across the state.

According to IReporter Online, Onyekesi was abducted from his residence by armed assailants who first shot him in the leg before whisking him away. Days later, his lifeless body was discovered dumped in Amawbia, sending shockwaves through the business and political communities.

In response, the state government has pledged to leave no stone unturned in hunting down the perpetrators. During a condolence visit to the bereaved family, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, speaking on behalf of the administration, condemned the killing as “dastardly” and “heart-wrenching,” promising that justice would be served.

Dr. Mefor paid special tribute to the victim’s mother, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, who also serves as the Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state. He reassured her of the government’s commitment to deploying all available resources to ensure the killers are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted.

Describing the murder as a direct assault on the new security framework established under Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration, Mefor affirmed that law enforcement agencies had already recovered the vehicle used in the abduction and were closing in on the suspects.

He highlighted that the incident challenges the effectiveness of the “Solution Government’s” security architecture, which has been actively addressing criminal activities since its launch on February 18, 2025. Notably, he said, crime rates had significantly decreased in volatile areas due to the activities of the state’s security formations—Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-Achi.

Dr. Mefor warned that anyone involved in acts of criminality within the state would face swift and decisive action, adding that Anambra’s improved security would not be undermined by isolated incidents of brutality.
