Midnight Rescue: Six Abducted Law Students Freed in High-Stakes Police Operation
According to iReporter Online, six law students abducted along the volatile Benue-Taraba corridor have regained their freedom, following a successful rescue operation by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
The students, who were en route from Anambra State to the Nigerian Law School campus in Yola, Adamawa State, were kidnapped on July 26, 2025. The incident occurred while they were traveling through a high-risk zone between Wukari in Taraba and a border area in Benue State.
In a statement released in Makurdi, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, Udeme Edet, confirmed that the victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families early Friday morning, August 1, 2025.
Security operatives were said to have acted swiftly after receiving intelligence on the kidnappers’ location. The captors had reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦120 million and issued death threats should their demands go unmet.
Law enforcement authorities assured the public of their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, particularly along Nigeria’s vulnerable transit corridors.
While details of the rescue operation remain confidential for security reasons, sources indicate that no ransom was ultimately paid. The prompt recovery of the students has since been lauded as a significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry in the region.
