Insecurity Will Be Defeated” — Akpabio Assures Nigerians

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that the country’s insecurity challenges will soon be defeated, while calling on citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope reforms.

Akpabio made the remarks while highlighting the importance of security, economic reforms and cooperation between citizens and government agencies in driving national development.

According to reports, the Senate President said security agencies had moved from a largely reactive approach to a more proactive strategy in confronting criminals, including bandits and insurgents.

“The security forces are taking the fight directly to the enclaves of criminals, bandits, and insurgents,” Akpabio said.

He added, “The strategy has shifted from reaction to proactive confrontation, and I assure Nigerians that insecurity will be defeated.”

Akpabio acknowledged that insecurity remains a major obstacle to economic growth, noting that businesses and investors require a secure environment to operate successfully.

He also urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information about criminal activities in their communities.

According to him, military equipment and personnel alone cannot completely address criminality without actionable intelligence from residents.

“Security is a collective civic responsibility. Our security personnel are working tirelessly on the frontlines, but they rely on actionable intelligence from the communities they protect,” he said.

On the economy, Akpabio said reforms in the financial sector, including the ongoing recapitalisation of banks, had strengthened Nigeria’s banking industry.

He attributed what he described as increased resilience in the banking sector to reforms under the Tinubu administration, saying the days when bank failures could leave depositors stranded were over.

“Today, thanks to the bold vision and strategic foresight of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, our banking sector has transitioned from survival to absolute dominance,” Akpabio said.

He described the banking sector as increasingly resilient and technologically advanced, while maintaining that continued reforms were important to sustaining economic recovery and national development.
