Report Them” — Ikeja Electric Warns Against Unauthorized Electricians

Ikeja Electric Plc has warned customers against engaging unauthorised electrical workers to carry out jobs on its network, urging members of the public to report unsafe activities around its infrastructure.

According to the electricity distribution company, the warning was issued during its September Virtual Stakeholder Engagement held on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

Speaking during the session, Ikeja Electric’s Head of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment, Olaniyi Olayiwola, advised customers against allowing unqualified individuals to climb electricity poles or work on power lines.

He also cautioned against illegal connections and tampering with electrical installations, noting that such activities could result in serious injuries or death.

Olayiwola said some recent incidents involving people who attempted to carry out electrical work without the necessary authorisation or training had resulted in fatalities.

He urged customers who observe unsafe activities around Ikeja Electric infrastructure to report them to the company instead of attempting to confront or stop the individuals involved.

The official also advised residents and communities to maintain adequate clearance around high-voltage power lines, warning that buildings and other activities carried out too close to electricity infrastructure could pose serious risks to members of the public.

On meter refunds, Ikeja Electric said customers who had previously paid for eligible meters would receive their refunds as credits applied to their electricity vending transactions within the approved refund period.

The company added that customers could track the status of their Meter Asset Provider refunds online using either their meter number or account number.

According to the company, the refund information available to customers includes the cost of the meter, the number of refunds already made, the amount refunded each month, the total amount refunded and the date of the most recent refund.

Customers can also access information on the applicable refund token, which is sent to the phone number or email address registered with Ikeja Electric.

The company advised customers with questions or complaints concerning their meter refunds to contact its official customer service channels or visit the nearest Ikeja Electric undertaking office.

Ikeja Electric’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, also urged customers to rely on the company’s official platforms for information about electricity services and complaints.

He said the company’s regular engagements with customers were aimed at improving awareness of safety procedures, providing assistance and ensuring that service-related complaints were directed through the appropriate channels.

Ikeja Electric therefore urged members of the public to report unsafe electrical activities around its network and avoid allowing unauthorised persons to interfere with its infrastructure.
