Veteran Nigerian Singer Reveals “You Must Know How To Fight In The Industry” Amid Claims Of Using ‘Juju

Veteran Nigerian singer, Chinagorom Onuoha, popularly known as African China, has spoken about the challenges he faced while navigating the music industry, stating that survival required learning how to defend oneself physically and otherwise.

According to Ireporter Online, the “Mr President” crooner made the remarks during a recent appearance on the ‘Beer Parlour Talk’ podcast, where he reflected on the intense pressure and threats he allegedly encountered while making conscious music.

African China claimed that his activism-driven songs placed him in constant danger, adding that he took steps to protect himself, including learning martial arts. He further alleged that he also relied on spiritual means for protection during that period.

He stated that he earned a black belt in martial arts as part of his efforts to stay safe, stressing that he was frequently pursued by security operatives and local groups such as the police, the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), and area boys due to the controversial nature of his music.

The singer also recounted that informants within different circles helped him evade repeated threats, noting that even during performances, he remained highly vigilant as he believed he was being monitored and targeted.

He added that the persistent harassment led some to believe he used supernatural means to disappear from danger, a perception he neither fully confirmed nor denied in the interview.
